With only few days to go before the performance of Kouyaté-Neerman, South Africa and Lesotho can look forward to discovering their unique sonic landscape beyond African music, rock, jazz and electro.

In Johannesburg, the Bassline will welcome the Malian-French duo on Friday 11 October with a special opening act featuring one of South Africa’s most respected musicians, Pops Mohamed collaborating with up and coming singer from Soweto, Dudu and West African jazz and soul saxophonist. This partnership between the three artists echoes the Malian-French collaboration the South African way with a West African touch.

Renowned for his passion for music, his unique collaborations and experimentation from the traditional, through contemporary, to experimental music, Pops Mohamed is as active as ever, mentoring young performing artist and Makhweyane player, Dudu Majola, and producing her debut CD due to be released next year. Dudu has worked with legends Khaya Mahlangu, Pops Mohamed and Stella Khumalo on a project called Calling Up Soweto, an intervention between South Africa and Belgium which performed around Belgium, Holland and Macufe festival, Nikkies Oasis in Newtown, as well as the BAT Centre in Durban.

Ayo Solanke is a professional jazz and soul saxophonist from West Africa with almost two decades of experience. He is a minister in songs, a songwriter and arranger with a background in event management and project coordination. He released his debut album in May 2011. He has worked and recorded with some of the best artists and producers such as Danny K, Asa, Cobhams, Hugh Masekela, Jimmy Dludlu, Judith Sephuma & Pops Mohammed.
