Last year, the 25th May marked the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Organisation of African Unity and the institution of Africa Day, and this year, South Africa celebrates 20 years of democracy.

With the view of celebrating these two events and consolidating African solidarity, the 2014 Africa Week Festival proposes a week long programme of reflections around these thematics and the promotion of Human Rights and Social Cohesion.

The festival, which takes place from 17 to 25 May in Yeoville Bellevue, also aims to combat all forms of discrimation including racism, sexism and Xenophobia, and also to celebrate the Africa Day and to promote a dynamic link between the continental body and communities on the ground.

The celebration will showcase the richness and diversity of African Culture in carnival, songs, dances, music, arts, craft, clothing, exhibition and food.

The week-long celebrations around Africa Day will take place in various venues in Yeoville Bellevue - a Pan-African destination in South Africa. On the last day, the festivities will include live music including the performance of Burkinabe rapper Smarty, 2013 RFI Discoveries Award Winner.
