Following the success of the first Without Words talkshop hosted by Joburg Ballet in July, Arts Alive, Institut Français d’Afrique du Sud (IFAS) and Dance Umbrella with Joburg Ballet bring you the second in this series of open discussions in celebration of Women’s Month on Wednesday 13 August at 6pm at IFAS in Braamfontein.

As part of an initiative to raise awareness of Women’s Month and highlight issues affecting modern life, Arts Alive, IFAS, Dance Umbrella and Joburg Ballet aim to encourage dialogue between audiences, artists and practitioners. This discussion builds on the development of dance as a tool for transformation in South Africa and abroad and aims to promote the role that arts and culture play in society.

The evening’s dance will be a diverse mix of filmed and live performances. French ballet company, Ballet Preljocaj (soon to visit SA as part of the Dance Umbrella at the Johannesburg Arts Alive International Festival) will be seen on screen in extracts from the work Les Nuits - The Nights brought to South Africa by Total SA and IFAS while Joburg Ballet will perform Angela Maree’s award-winning My Reverie and Forgotten Angle Theatre Collaborative Thami Majela’s Mettamoffiesies live.

Hosted at IFAS headquarters in Braamfontein, Wednesday 13 August will be a starting point of sharing and collaboration between inner-city organisations promoting unity and using influence to shed light on issues affecting women and society in South Africa. WITHOUT WORDS in Women’s Month continues this drive to effect change through collaboration as Arts Alive, IFAS, Dance Umbrella and Joburg Ballet join forces with artists, activists and practitioners in the city.

Members of the media and public are invited to join WITHOUT WORDS in Women’s Month for a preview of Ballet Preljocaj Les Nuits, My Reverie and Metamoffiesies, and an open discussion with the choreographers on Wednesday 13 August from 6pm to 7:30pm.

Join us for a thought provoking meeting of minds and dance.
