French movie “The Gang of the Caribbean” to be screened at the Joburg Film Festival

2016-Le Gang Des Antillais-HD Small

With the support of IFAS, the first edition of the Joburg Film Festival will screen the French movie "The Gang of the Caribbean" at Cinema Nouveau, Rosebank on 4th November (16h15). The screening (French with English subtitles) will be in presence of the film's director Jean Claude Barny, actor Djedje Apali and producer Sébastien Onomo.

For his second film, Jean-Claude Barny tackles the autobiography of Loïc Lery, member of the gang of the Caribbean that made the headlines in the 1970s, with an impressive cast, including Eriq Ebounaey, Djedje Apali, Romane Bohringer and Mathieu Kassovitz.

An uncompromising dive in the France of the 70s. Jimmy Larivière struggles to survive with his daughter and to find his place in society. His meeting with the Gang of the Caribbean, a group of idealistic thugs, triggers his revolt, and the exasperation of a community who arrived in France through the BUMIDOM (Office for the French Caribbean Migration). False promises, violence, friendships, rivalries, betrayals, Jimmy loses himself: a gun in hand, how not to become slave to easy money?
