IFAS and the Digital Lab Africa attend the Annecy International Animated Film Festival and Market, from 12 to 17 June 2017

As part of the Annecy International Animated Film Festival and Market (MIFA), taking place from 12 to 17 June 2017 in France, Nigerian animation artist Ayodele Elegba is coming to Annecy to present his animated web series project Area Daddy.

Taking on a whole new dimension for this 2017 edition, MIFA launched MIFA Campus, a one-day event created in order to stimulate meetings between young creatives and industry professionals. On Tuesday 13th June 2017, students, entry-level professionals and experts are invited to meet up and discuss different topics related to education, the creative process and recruitment.

On this occasion, the French Institute in South Africa presented a work-in-progress session titled "The African Challenge: how to spot and support Africa's talent". South-African animator Matt Torode, together with its French coproducer Ivan Zuber showcased the short Waterloo & Trafalgar which was presented at the Animation du Monde Mifa Pitch sessions in 2015 (co-produced by Tincup.TV and Laïdak Films). Nigerian animation artist & 2016 Digital Lab Africa (DLA) winner in the Web Creation category Ayodele Elegba, joined by his DLA mentor Alexandre Rideau from Keewu Production pitched its web series Area Daddy. Together, they shared insights & feedbacks with industry professionals and animation students.

On the back of the ongoing partnership between DISCOP Markets, the African Animation Network (AAN) and Annecy International Animated Film Festival & Market, DLA was confirmed last month as the naming partner of the Animation Transmedia category, for the Annecy – MIFA Pitches Animation du Monde competition. The laureate will win an automatic entry into the DLA#2 pitch competition, and get a chance to win the DLA prize money for the Transmedia category and a tailored mentorship programme with leading French experts and companies.

Finally, Animation SA, with the support of the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), is leading a delegation of animation content creators to attend the festival and market. The delegates will participate in activities such as pitching workshops, pitching sessions, master classes and workshops on the business of animation, to expose them to the best of the industry.
