Screening of "La Rafle" (The Round Up"), a film commemorating the fate of Parisian Jews in World War II

The "Rafle du Vel' d'Hiv" (Vel' d'Hiv round up) is one of the most infamous episode of Word War II in France. On July the 16th and 17th 1942, more than 13 000 Parisian Jews, including 4 000 children, were rounded up and eventually deported with the help of the French police. To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the tragedy, as part of the France-South Africa crossed seasons 2012-2013, the South African Holocaust & Genocide centre and the French Institute in South Africa propose a screening of the long feature "La Rafle" in several SA cities. Directed by Rose Bosch and based on meticulous research, the film tells the story of a young boy and several families whose lives were crushed in this round up.
