French-Tunisian documentary screened during the 15th Encounters South African International Documentary Festival

From 6 to 16 June 2013, the Encounters South African International Documentary Festival, Africa’s premier documentary event, celebrates its 15th edition.

With the support of the French Institute of South Africa, the movie Même pas mal (No harm done in English) from French-Tunisian director Nadia El Fani will be screened during the festival in Johannesburg and Cape Town as follows:

-V&A Cinema Nouveau Cape Town, Monday 10 June, 8.30pm

-The Bioscope, Johannesburg, Friday 14 June, 8.30pm

Meme Pas Mal - Nadia El Fani's double combat: against Islamists and against her cancer. A film about freedom of expression, about the artistic, creative and political struggles which in countries faced with obscurantist tendencies are necessary more than ever. A film to illustrate the timeless adage of Victor Hugo: "those who live are those who fight".

Nadia El Fani was born in 1960 to a Tunisian father and a French mother. After working as assistant director, notably with Roman Polanski and Franco Zeffirelli, she directed her first short film, Pour le plaisir (For the pleasure) in 1990. She directed her first documentary in 1993, Femmes leaders du Maghreb (Women Leaders of the Maghreb) and then, Tanitez-moi, followed by four short fiction films. She has directed and produced a number of documentaries and short films. Meme Pas Mal - being her most recent.
