France-South Africa co-production workshop in Paris
A two-day co-production workshop between France and South Africa has been held in Paris on March 29-30. The event was organised by the French National Centre for Cinema (CNC) and the South African National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), in conjunction with the Embassy of France in South Africa.
This was the second France-SA co-production workshop organised as part of the on-going cooperation in the film industry between France and South Africa. The first one was held during the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF), in 2012. The objective was to encourage co-productions within the framework of the co-production treaty existing between the two countries since 2010.
The workshop aims at creating a platform for South African filmmakers & producers with developed feature film projects to engage with fellow French producers, and find potential partners with a view to co-produce their projects.
Five South-African productions were presented during the workshop:
The workshop was hosted by CNC, at its head office in Paris. In addition to the 5 South African participants presenting their projects, the event was attended by a NFVF delegation headed by its CEO, Zama Mkosi. After a morning opening session on Wednesday 29 March, the producers had one-to-one meetings with French producers across the two days of the workshop.
