Annecy Online Festival 2020

2020 Annecy Festival

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival and its Market (Mifa) is the major international event for over 11 000 industry professionals. For the 2020 edition, the festival and the market will take place entirely online, from 15 to 30 June. All the content, including Official Selection, Special Programmes, Work in Progress, Masterclasses, Making of and Preview will be available on a special platform that you can access wherever you are.

IFAS is very happy to be supporting the South African delegation for this year's event. Several South African films have been selected in the competition, and a press conference will be streamed to announce the Digital Lab Africa winners on 19 June at 12pm. Comics author Loyiso Mkize will also be a special guest of this year's edition.

The Africa focus has been rolled over to 2021, giving the continent another opportunity to show its amazing talent! In the meantime, South Africa can be very proud to have had a record of FOUR films accepted into competition this year!

They are:

- MY BETTER WORLD (Michael Clark and Johan Scheepers/Maan Creative) - in the TV category;

- THE SNAIL AND THE WHALE (Daniel Snaddon and Max Lang/Triggerfish Animation and Magic Light Productions) - TV Category

- 3 TEASPOONS OF SUGAR (Tshepo Maaka and Kabelo Maaka/Cabblow Studios) - Perspectives Category

- THE NEXT FEW MONTHS (Kayleigh Gemmell/University of KZN) - Graduation Films Category.

In this category, honourable mention also goes to DOGS from Gobelins l'Ecole de l'Image. While the film was made in France, the directorial team featured our own Thinus van Rooyen, who recently completed the Gobelins International Masters Programme.

IFAS is also proud to have prolific sand animation artist and former Jean-Luc Xiberras First Film Award-winner Naomi van Niekerk of Dryfsand as a judge in the Short Film category at Annecy this year.
