French producer Jacques Bidou at P2P 2013

With the support of the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS), the internationally renowned French producer Jacques Bidou will be one of the guest speakers of the next People to People –P2P - International Documentary Conference. The 2013 edition will be held in Johannesburg 15-18 September, at the Wits Theater.

 

Biography:

Jacques Bidou was born in 1945. Since 1987, his company, JBA Production, has produced over 100 films (documentary & feature films). His productions have been selected in international festivals like Cannes, Toronto and Venice on a regular basis. Jacques Bidou co-produced several films in South Africa: South African Chronicles (1988), My vote is my secret (1994), Zulu Love Letter, directed by Ramadan Suleman (2004). On the training side, Jacques Bidou has been head of studies of EURODOC and DOCMED programs funded by the EU.

 

P2P Conference:

P2P 2013 will offer a range of exciting activities from the 15th-18th September; P2P Industry Hub – a platform for panel discussions; P2P DocSchool masterclasses with visiting filmmakers and P2P Showcase in partnership with SA's leading documentary festivals TCFF and Encounters. It offers delegates and the general public a line-up of groundbreaking documentaries from the continent and beyond.

 

In 2013, P2P together with implementing partner The Tri Continental Film Festival and founding partner The Encounters Documentary Film Festival will host a line-up of open screening-events with attending filmmakers. Mads Brügger’s provocative The Ambassador together with another controversial Danish documentary The Act of Killing by Joshua Oppenheimer and Snake Dance by Manu Riche are all sure to inspire heated debate and dialogue.


P2P guest speakers line-up includes the controversial Mads Brugger (Denmark), maverick Djo Tunda Wa Munga (DRC), transmedia starlet Aina Abiodun (Nigeria/US), legendary producers Joslyn Barnes (US) and global documentary decision makers Nick Fraser (BBC Storyville UK), Margje De Koning (Ikon, Netherlands), Ingrid Falck (Al Jazeera Witness UK), Amy Richardson (Worldview UK) and Judy Kibinge (Docubox East Africa).
