South African film selected at the 37th International Short Film Festival

30 January - 7 February 2015, Clermont-Ferrand (France)

For the first time in a while, a South African film has been selected at the number 1 Short Film Festival worldwide which welcomed more than 3,000 professionals and 160,000 visitors in 2014.

“The Call”, the short film by South African Zamani Mkhwanazi, was selected with 79 other short films as part of the competition, amongst 5930 films entered worldwide!

The short film features an emotionally disconnected taxi driver who realizes that he does not want his prostitute girlfriend to abort the child that could be his.

Zamani Mkhwanazi is travelling to the International Short Film Festival with the support of the The French Institute of South Africa.

About the Festival
The Festival presents around 500 features from 90 countries, as part of three different competitions (nationale, internationale and labo) as well as several retrospectives, including the programme “Regards d’Afrique” and a youth programme.

The Marché du Film Court is taking place alongside the Festival, creating opportunities for organisations, festivals, tv stations to exchange ideas, network, collaborate and shop for short features, as well as proposing a series of conferences and talks.

About Zamani Mkhwanazi 
SA director has written nearly a hundred hours of aired television on over twenty-five television shows including: “The Lab”, “90 Plein Street”, “Isidingo” and “Jacob’s Cross”. Her short film “Philia” which she wrote, directed and produced, has recently been screened at various film festivals including the United Nations Film Festival. She wrote on all three of the television shows nominated for SAFTA Best Writing Team Award in 2009.
