PROFESSOR / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR AND HEAD OF DEPARTMENT (ONE POST)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for:

• The strategic, academic and operational management of the Department;
• Promoting the Department’s research profile;
• Promoting a high standard of academic teaching and best teaching practices;
• Playing an active role as academic leader of the discipline at a national and international level;
• Fundraising for departmental activities;
• Providing or facilitating mentorship for young academics in the Department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• A doctorate in French, German, Portuguese or Spanish;
• Senior academic status in the relevant discipline;
• A proven research and publications record;
• A proven postgraduate supervision track record;
• Experience in high-level liaison with internal and external stakeholders and professional boards;
• An appropriate vision for the Department;
• International recognition as academic;
• Resource mobilisation, including fund raising;
• Strong leadership and communication skills.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
• Managerial experience at a tertiary institution;
• A strong research record in one of the Department’s research specialisation fields;
• International recognition;
• Preference will be given to candidates holding a PhD in French.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.

Although candidates will be appointed permanently as Professor or Associate Professor, the headship is a fixed-term appointment of four years. Preference will be given to the incumbent for re-appointment for a second term.

In die nastrewing van die ideale van uitnemendheid en diversiteit, word aansoeke vir die bogenoemde pos ingewag.

PLIGTE:
Die posbeklëer sal verantwoordelik wees vir:

• Die strategiese, akademiese en operasionele bestuur van die Departement;
• Die bevordering van die Departement se navorsingsprofiel;
• Die bevordering van ‘n hoë standaard van akademiese onderrig en beste onderrigpraktyke;
• Die speel van ‘n aktiewe rol as akademiese leier van die dissipline op nasionale en internasionale vlak;

• Voorsiening of fasilitering van mentorskap vir jong akademici in die Departement.


MINIMUM VEREISTES:
• ‘n Doktorsgraad in Duits, Frans, Portugees of Spaans, ;
• Senior akademiese status in die toepaslike dissipline;
• ’n Bewese navorsings- en publikasierekord;
• ‘n Bewese rekord van nagraadse leiding;
• Ervaring in hoë-vlak skakeling met interne en eksterne belanghebbendes en professionele rade;
• ’n Toepaslike visie vir die Departement;
• Internasionale erkenning as ‘n akademikus;
• Hulpbronbenutting, insluitend die verkryging van fondse;
• Sterk leierskap en kommunikasievaardighede.


AANBEVELINGS:
• Bestuurservaring aan ’n tersiêre instelling;
• ‘n Sterk navorsingsrekord in een van die Departement se navorsingspesialis velde;
• Voorkeur sal verleen word aan kandidate met ‘n doktorsgraad in Frans.


Die jaarlikse vergoedingspakket vir hierdie pos sal in ooreenstemming met die suksesvolle kandidaat se vlak van aanstelling wees. UP onderskryf die BESTMED mediese skema en dra 50% van die toepaslike maandelikse paaiement by.
