Zouk megastar group Kassav’ is set to appear at Bassline in Newtown on Sunday 26 April 2015 at 21:30 for a spectacular ‘One Night Only’ performance, with SA artists banding together with their Afro-Caribbean sounds in a stand against xenophobia.

In light of the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa, local musicians will pay homage to universal peace and harmony by joining French super-group Kassav’ on stage to perform Bob Marley’s “One Love” at Bassline in Newtown on Sunday 26 April 2015!

Winner of the 2014 ‘Male Artist of the Year’ SA Music Award, Kabomo Vilakazi, will lend his voice to the harmonious Afrocentric coalition. Soulful songstress Wanda Baloyi has also been confirmed as one of the SA musicians who’ll be taking a stand against xenophobia by collaborating with the zouk music originators.

In preparation for Sunday's concert, ‘Making Music Productions’ show co-ordinator Steve Gordon says: "Kassav's funky fusion of Caribbean, African and European sounds has been shared by people around the world. ‘Crossover' may be a market term, but cultural crossover is the currency we seek.” Gordon played an integral role in engineering the sound quality of the late Nelson Mandela’s speech following his release from prison.

Expressing their excitement to visit SA and share the gift of music with all Africans this Sunday, Kassav’s lead vocalist Jocelyne Béroard says: “South Africa has always inspired us through its music, and of course through Nelson Mandela and his fight to get a better tomorrow for his nation. Mandela feeds any brain that is open to his words because we all need to repair ourselves.” She goes on to express her mutual understanding to our current set of circumstances by saying: “Kassav’ is an example of the ‘living together’ that politicians in France try to get in their country because Martinique and Guadeloupe shared the same history. From the very beginning, Kassav has been composed by those two islands reunited and this has never changed.”

Don’t miss Kassav’ and their bold Afro-Caribbean theatrics set to take place on 26 April 2015 at Bassline, Newtown, Johannesburg at 21:30 for ‘One Night Only’.

Concert Charles X - From biting rap to sensual soul music

Charles X is as old as the era he worships. 26 years old, Dales Anthony Doss, A.K.A Charles X, seems straight out of the dawn of the 90s, in the middle of hip hop's golden age (A Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets) and of nu soul (D'Angelo, Maxwell). Except that the Californian does not settle… Read more
