Homage to French Composer Pierre Boulez (1925-2016)

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of  brilliant French composer and conductor Pierre Boulez, who was a defining and lauded paragon of  20th century music.  Last June, the French Institute of South Africa, the Goethe-Institut, and Prosound, supported  in Johannesburg a "Day of the Giants" to celebrate his works. Initiated by Jill Richards and Waldo Alexander, this special public event explored Boulez' legacy with South African premieres of his works. It also looked at the relationship between Pierre Boulez, John Cage and Karlheinz Stockhausen, who all had profound influences on the music of their time.

Concert Charles X - From biting rap to sensual soul music

Charles X is as old as the era he worships. 26 years old, Dales Anthony Doss, A.K.A Charles X, seems straight out of the dawn of the 90s, in the middle of hip hop's golden age (A Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets) and of nu soul (D'Angelo, Maxwell).
