6th edition of the “Fête de La Musique” in Newtown

2016-FDLM-AF-980x340

The 6th edition of the “Fête de La Musique” in Newtown is presented by the Alliance Française of Johannesburg, the French Institute of South Africa, the Market Theatre Foundation and Bassline Live with the support of Total South Africa.

An all-day free music event!

It is time again for the annual Fête de la Musique, a free event dedicated to live music for all. The big day will take place on Saturday, the 17th of June 2017 in Newtown.

The Alliance Française of Johannesburg, the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS), the Market Theatre Foundation and Bassline Live are proud to announce the 6th edition of the Fête de La Musique. Through this event, musicians and bands, whether professionals or amateurs, are encouraged to perform, entertain, express themselves, and never stop generating music for future generations.

Last year, more than 8,000 people gathered in Newtown to enjoy the 5th Fête de la Musique in Johannesburg.

Once again, in a warm and friendly atmosphere, Newtown will host talents on 4 open sky stages. On theses 4 stages, there will be styles of music for every taste. Newtown will come alive as visitors enjoy the live music and will be turned to a pedestrian zone for the duration of the event.

This 2017 edition will once again showcase some of today's best French and international acts and South African's favourite established and emerging talents. It will be fun and exciting, in a safe and inclusive atmosphere that brings communities together.

The Fête de la Musique welcomes everyone, from novices to connoisseurs, who will enjoy free music as well as the diversity of Newtown, a vibrant and fast-changing inner city neighbourhood. Comprehensive security arrangements, a safe parking, food area, restaurants and bars will mean that everyone can make the most of this popular, free music event.

It is happening in few weeks' time and it is our great pleasure and privilege to share the line-up with you.

Also, on Youth Day, the 16th of June, a foretaste of the Fête de la Musique is organised at The Windybrow Arts Centre.
Celebrating 120 years of existence this year, this very well-known cultural venue in Hillbrow, will host an exclusive and free concert with Sax Machine (France) and Shef and the Kitchen (South Africa) from 3pm to 5pm.
Everyone is welcome to enjoy free music!
Address: 161 Nugget Street, corner Pietersen Street, Hillbrow, Johannesburg.

We are very proud and grateful to announce that once again, Total SA is supporting this event. The Fête de la Musique is part of their heritage portfolio which is dedicated to supporting and advancing the cultural and artistic endeavour across multiple disciplines.

Concert Charles X - From biting rap to sensual soul music

Charles X is as old as the era he worships. 26 years old, Dales Anthony Doss, A.K.A Charles X, seems straight out of the dawn of the 90s, in the middle of hip hop's golden age (A Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets) and of nu soul (D'Angelo, Maxwell). Except that the Californian does not settle… Read more
