FRENCH JAZZ PIANIST LAURENT COQ IN SOUTH AFRICA

FRIDAY 28 JUNE | STANDARD BANK JAZZ FESTIVAL, NATIONAL ARTS FESTIVAL
SATURDAY 29 JUNE | FETE DE LA MUSIQUE, JOHANNESBURG

The mark of wisdom lies, more than anything else, in the ability to listen.’ Buddhist quote

French jazz pianist, composer and arranger, Laurent Coq is presenting Dialogue to the South African audience as part of an extensive African tour.

Dialogue is Laurent Coq's ninth album. Recorded in July 2012 in France by Gérard de Haro and Nicolas Baillard, this entirely new repertoire has been largely inspired by two young musicians of French West Indies descent, Ralph Lavital on guitar and Nicolas Pélage on vocal (on five tracks out of eleven).

The musician was inspired by two Buddhists quotes during the creative process of his latest album: ‘The mark of wisdom lies, more than anything else, in the ability to listen.’ ‘To have faith in the power of dialogue is to believe in the promise of humanity.’

The career of performer, composer and musical activist Laurent Coq has been guided by amazing encounters which led him to travel the world, collaborate with artists from various fields, compose film scores for full orchestra and perform at leading festivals in Europe, New York and Tokyo. He was voted Best Jazz Musician in 2006 by the French Jazz Academy.
