Cie Lubat in Johannesburg

A marvellous and original world of Jazz improvisation.

Considered as one of the greatest French improviser, Bernard Lubat contributed to the emergence of Free jazz in France, with the likes of Michel Portal, Jean-François Jenny-Clark and Jean-Pierre Drouet, and played with some of the world top jazz musicians (Stan Getz, Archie Shepp, Hermeto Pascoal, Jean-Luc Ponty, Martial Solal, Eddy Louiss).

Poly-instrumentalist, singer, composer, he collaborated with poets (Bernard Manciet, Edouard Glissant), playwrights (André Benedetto) and visual artists (Ernest Pignon Ernest, Alain Kirili), founded one of the most original French music festival, the Uzeste Music Festival, and created the Compagnie Lubat, a collective of versatile and multi-talented musicians and artists (cinema, music, visual arts, poetry…).

With a great creative energy, improviser born, provocative and passionate with words, Bernard Lubat occupies a unique and essential role on the French jazz scene.
