Soul City takes on Durban City, 22-24 August 2016

Soul City is one of the oldest dance crew in Reunion Island. Renowned for its shows and battles, the crew became an official dance company in 2008. They bring to light a proper identity from Reunion Island.

Since 2009, South Africa has become their regular destination and again in 2014 they took "Infecting the City Festival" by storm in Cape Town. This year, they are back to South Africa for a special series of workshops with both DUT (Durban University of Technology) and UKZN (University of KwaZulu-Natal) dance students from 22-24 August at DUT Campus and they will also perform their new creation "Priyèr' Sï Priyèr", choreographed by Didier Boutiana, at the Jomba Festival from August 26, along with a workshop on August 27.

Didier Boutiana was born in Reunion Island and began dancing Hip Hop (Breakdance) in 2002. Throughout his own training based mainly on exchanges and meetings, Boutiana has a particular interest in an abstract form of dance based on body expression.

Transmission is one of the leading values of the Hip Hop culture. With this sense of sharing in mind, the company proudly supports the progress of emerging/semi-professional talents. Through masterclasses and immersion in the real artistic environment, dancers embarking on a professional career are exposed to other perspectives, choreographic expressions and the artistic scene.
Soul City does not represent only one type of dance, but rather a state of mind which has been perpetuated from one artist to another, for almost 15 years, using « openness » as a key-concept.

Since last year, the Company has been on tour with their fresh piece Priyèr' Sï Priyèr"and have already performed in Reunion Island, Germany, Mozambique, Holland and Sweden.
