Happy Dhlame’s solo exhibition includes new works ranging from paintings to video and site specific installations. The exhibition looks at abandoned spaces in the inner city, the fabric of the city and people living in those spaces. Through traditional media to new media, and found objects, the artist seeks to unpack the urban landscape of Johannesburg within the walls of the Johannesburg Art Gallery. Come to Happy Dhlame’s exhibition runs until August 2015 at Johannesburg Art Gallery about the theme Construct to Deconstruct.

Did you know that the Johannesburg Art Gallery was going to celebrate his 100 years? On the occasion of its centenary, several innovative projects had been set up surrounding the deterioration of the Meyer/Pienaar extension of the building. Artists have been invited to create site specific interventions in the basement gallery that either draw attention to or respond to the leaks, cracks and tensions existing within the space.

Join the artist's unique universe and enjoy the rebirth of the Gallery on Sunday 24 May at 2pm for the opening of the exhibition!
Opening speaker: Karabo Kgoleng
Live perfromance by Herbie Tswaeli, Kgafela wa Magogodi and BCUC
