Exhibition "En Attendant" by ERIC GAUSS - On Tour in Southern Africa

alt“The collection is a photographic interpretation of the impact of human beings on the environment. The threat to the environment posed by human activity is one of the biggest challenges facing us today. While I do not consider myself to be an activist, my work aims to question our images of the world.
Photographers before me, such as Cartier Bresson (considered to be the father of modern photojournalism), Capa and Salgado, to name but a few, were witnesses to the changing world. Witness accounts through the medium of photography have become prevalent and relatively easy to interpret. In the works making up this exhibition I wish to challenge viewers to analyse what the images before them mean to them and what feelings they provoke. The photographs ask questions of us all. Each viewer will have his or her own interpretation."

"The title of the exhibition En Attendant suggests that we tend to wait for something to happen, rather than as individuals taking some form of action. The exhibition aims to question the individual – where do you stand in relation to what is happening to our environment?
Take time to view the works and the impact they have on you as an individual.
Take time.
How do you feel?
Take time.”
