"Rendez-vous": a project featuring a contemporary art exhibition set in Cape Town

"Rendez-vous" is an international platform for contemporary art created in 2002 to showcase the work of young artists in the visual art field. As part of the France-South African Seasons, the project will feature a contemporary art exhibition that will take place from the 11 of July 2012 to the 14 of October 2012 in the prestigious Iziko-South African National Gallery in Cape Town.

"Rendez-vous" participates in the Lyon Biennial, one of the most renowned contemporary art events in Europe. In the years between the biennial, the project undertakes initiatives overseas, often combining residencies with an exhibition as it will be the case at the Iziko-South African National Gallery. A group of 20 artists from five continents will present their new works in sculpture, video, installation, drawing, painting and art performance. They will include several French and South African artists.

In addition to the exhibition, "Rendez-vous" will give rise to residencies in South Africa. In keeping with the reciprocal character of the France-South Africa Seasons 2012 & 2013, South African artists will also have an opportunity to participate in the "Rendez-vous" exhibition at the Lyon Biennial 2013.

"Rendez-vous" 2012 is organised in co-production with the Iziko-South African National Gallery, with the support of the Région Rhône-Alpes, Ville de Lyon and Ville de Villeurbanne. Iziko-South African National Gallery - 25 Queen Victoria Street Cape Town - Tel : 021 481 38 00
