Les Cahiers de l’IFAS #6: Translation-Transnation 1994-2004

Dix ans d’échanges littéraires entre l’Afrique du Sud et la France.

Is it not true to say, with Umberto Eco, that translation constitutes the future of mankind after Babel? What assessment of multilingualism can we make in the post-apartheid historical context?

This bilingual special issue deals with the question of literary translation between France and South Africa. In the light of the debates conducted during the Johannesburg colloquium held in March 2004, translators, authors, critics and writers such as Catherine Lauga du Plessis, Alain Ricard, Donald Moerdijk or Chenjerai Hove exchange their point of views and experiences on the fusional and creative dimensions of translation and writing.
