Africae publie des ouvrages académiques en sciences humaines et sociales sur l’Afrique qui éclairent les dynamiques politiques, économiques et sociales par le passé et dans le présent.

Africae est la marque éditoriale représentant les publications en accès ouvert de l’Institut français de recherche en Afrique (IFRA) de Nairobi, au Kenya, associé à l’Institut français d’Afrique du Sud – Recherche (IFAS-Recherche) à Johannesburg, Afrique du Sud, et la Section française de la direction des antiquités du Soudan (SFDAS) à Khartoum, Soudan. Les trois instituts sont des composantes de l’USR 3336 Afrique au sud du Sahara, dont la direction est également la direction de l’IFRA-Nairobi.

Africae est piloté par un comité éditorial et un conseil scientifique. Le comité éditorial, qui rassemble les directeur·rices de l’IFRA-Nairobi, de la SFDAS et d’IFAS-Recherche ainsi que le coordinateur éditorial, a un rôle moteur pour initier des projets de publications, un rôle décisionnaire et un rôle de communication avec les auteur·e·s des projets. Il est aidé dans ses prises de décisions par un conseil scientifique, six enseignant·e·s-chercheur·e·s spécialistes des zones géographiques et expérimenté·e·s. Cette organisation éditoriale est issue d’un modèle d’évaluation scientifique et d’édition adopté par les directions des trois UMIFRE partenaires.

Édition et politique de coédition

Africae favorise les accords de coédition avec des éditeurs européens et africains pour la diffusion des versions imprimées, en vue notamment de rendre disponible le livre à des prix accessibles pour les publics africains. Les conventions de diffusion des versions imprimées tiennent compte de la primauté accordée à l’accès ouvert aux publications.

About Africae

Africae publishes academic works in the human and social sciences on Africa that shed light on political, economic and social dynamics in the past and present.

Africae is the publisher’s brand of the open access publications of the French Institute for Research in Africa (IFRA) in Nairobi, Kenya, in association with the French Institute of South Africa – Research (IFAS-Research) in Johannesburg, South Africa, and the French Sudan Antiquities Service (SFDAS) in Khartoum, Sudan. All three institutes are components of the USR 3336 Africa South of the Sahara, which is also the directorate of IFRA-Nairobi. 

Africae is steered by an Editorial Board and an Advisory Board. The Editorial Board, which brings together the directors of IFRA-Nairobi, SFDAS and IFAS-Research (editors-in-chief) as well as the managing editor, has a leading role in initiating publication projects, a decision-making role and a role in liaising with book projects’ authors. It is assisted in decision-making by an Advisory Board composed of 6 professors or researchers (2 per UMIFRE), specialists in the geographical area and experienced. The editorial and scientific organisation adopted here is the result of a scientific evaluation and publishing model adopted by the three partner-UMIFREs.

Publishing and co-publishing policy

Africae promotes co-publishing agreements with European and African publishers for the dissemination of the printed versions, with a specific view to ensuring that the book is available at affordable prices for African audiences. The agreements take into account the primacy of open access.
