International conference | Weaving histories from below in the Global South: Needlework, Gender, and Empowerment | 2-3 November

IFAS-Research is pleased to present its international conference Weaving histories from below in the Global South: Needlework, Gender, and Empowerment, on the 2nd and 3rd of November.

This event will bring together researchers from several disciplinary backgrounds (history, art history, anthropology, sociology, economics) around the theme of women’s textile production. The focus will be on the historical role of women in the production of South African textile heritage and on its historical and political dimension.

The conference will take place at the French Institute (IFAS, Institut Français d’Afrique du Sud), 62 Juta Street, Johannesburg.

Please note that only registered participants will be allowed to join the conference, either online or in person. RSVP before October 30th.
