Une \u00e9dition en anglais du deuxi\u00e8me volume des Voyages dans l’int\u00e9rieur de l’Afrique par le Cap de Bonne Esp\u00e9rance de Fran\u00e7ois Le Vaillant <\/em>(1790) <\/em>fait suite \u00e0 la publication du premier tome en <\/em>2007. L’ouvrage a \u00e9t\u00e9 traduit et comment\u00e9 par le professeur David Culpin, et publi\u00e9 par les Historical Publications southern Africa (HIPSA). L’IFAS-Recherche a soutenu la publication, et notamment les co\u00fbts de reproduction des nombreuses et exquises illustrations pr\u00e9sentes dans le volume. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Fran\u00e7ois Le Vaillant \u00e9tait un explorateur, collectionneur, ornithologue, scientifique amateur et auteur fran\u00e7ais du XVIII\u00e8me si\u00e8cle, qui a voyag\u00e9 au sud du continent dans les ann\u00e9es 1780. Ses livres ont contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 diffuser en Europe des connaissances sur l’Afrique australe, et plus particuli\u00e8rement sur ses populations, alors soumises \u00e0 des transformations brutales sous l’impact de la domination europ\u00e9enne. Ils ont \u00e9galement apport\u00e9 une foule de renseignements sur la nature, la g\u00e9ographie, la flore et la faune de cette r\u00e9gion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An English edition of the second volume of Fran\u00e7ois Le Vaillant’s Voyages dans l’int\u00e9rieur de l’Afrique par le Cap de Bonne Esp\u00e9rance <\/em>(1790) follows the publication of the first volume in 2007. The work was translated and commented by Professor David Culpin, and published by Historical Publications southern Africa (HIPSA). IFAS-Research supported the publication, including the costs of reproduction of the many exquisite illustrations in the volume. 

Fran\u00e7ois Le Vaillant was an 18th century French explorer, collector, ornithologist, amateur scientist and author who travelled to the south of the continent in the 1780s. His books contributed to the dissemination of knowledge in Europe about southern Africa, and more particularly about its populations, which were undergoing brutal transformations under the impact of European domination. They also provided a wealth of information on the nature, geography, flora and fauna of the region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
