L&#8217;objectif de cette d\u00e9l\u00e9gation \u00e9tait de de conduire des recherches ethnographiques \u00e0 Durban autour de deux volets principaux : <strong>les infrastructures et le d\u00e9veloppement urbain \u00e0 Durban<\/strong> d\u2019une part, et d\u2019autre part <strong>la concentration des soci\u00e9t\u00e9s sud-africaines de courses hippiques parmi les op\u00e9rateurs de jeux d\u2019argent<\/strong>. Apr\u00e8s avoir pr\u00e9senter ses travaux \u00e0 l&#8217;assembl\u00e9e g\u00e9n\u00e9rale annuelle de l&#8217;Anthropology Southern Africa et au congr\u00e8s de l&#8217;Union mondiale d&#8217;anthropologie, Sophie Chevalier pr\u00e9voit de publier en 2026 les r\u00e9sultats de ses travaux \u00e0 Durban.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Cette d\u00e9l\u00e9gation a \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 l\u2019occasion d\u2019une s\u00e9rie d\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nements autour des travaux de Sophie Chevalier, en partenariat avec l\u2019Alliance Fran\u00e7aise de Durban<\/strong> :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifas.org.za\/research\/uncategorized\/blue-heritage-blue-economy-seminar-19-march-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Le 19 mars, s\u2019est tenue une journ\u00e9e d\u2019\u00e9tude consacr\u00e9e au \u00ab tournant oc\u00e9anique \u00bb dans les sciences humaines et sociales en Afrique australe<\/mark><\/a>. The aim of this delegation was to conduct ethnographic research in Durban focusing on two main areas: on the one hand, <strong>infrastructure and urban development in Durban<\/strong>, and on the other hand, the <strong>concentration of South African horse racing companies among gambling operators<\/strong>. After presenting her work at the annual general meeting of Anthropology Southern Africa and at the World Anthropology congress, Sophie Chevalier plans to publish the results of her research in Durban in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>This delegation was also the occasion of a series of events around her work, in partnership with the Alliance fran\u00e7aise of Durban<\/strong>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifas.org.za\/research\/uncategorized\/blue-heritage-blue-economy-seminar-19-march-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">On March 19th, Sophie Chevalier organized a seminar at and with IFAS-Research, focused on the \u201coceanic turn\u201d in the social sciences and the humanities.<\/mark><\/a> It brought together methodologies and disciplines for a conversation on our relation to oceans, and on notions of blue or oceanic heritage. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifas.org.za\/research\/uncategorized\/roundtable-photo-exhibition-durban-from-the-coastline-3-april-2025-alliance-francaise-durban\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">On April 3, a public round-table at the Alliance Fran\u00e7aise of Durban focused on the Durban waterfront<\/mark><\/a>, through anthropological, historical,artistic, and architectural lenses. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifas.org.za\/research\/uncategorized\/restitution-screening-debate-7-april-2025-alliance-francaise-durban\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">On April 7, a second round-table at Alliance Fran\u00e7aise of Durban, following the screening of <em>Restitution? <\/em>(2021) by Nora Philippe<\/mark><\/a>, explored the restitution of artifacts held in European museums and their role in the construction of national identity in a post-colonial context.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[English version below] Sophie Chevalier, professeure d\u2019anthropologie et directrice de l\u2019UR4287 Habiter le Monde, \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9 de Picardie Jules Verne a \u00e9t\u00e9 accueillie en d\u00e9l\u00e9gation CNRS \u00e0 l\u2019IFAS-Recherche, de septembre 2024 \u00e0 ao\u00fbt 2025.
