Du 6 au 9 septembre 2026, l’IFAS-Recherche, l’IRD en Afrique australe et la School of Social Sciences de l’Universit\u00e9 du Witwatersrand ont organis\u00e9 le deuxi\u00e8me colloque du projet Beyond Binaries, qui vise \u00e0 repenser les rapports Sud-Nord dans la production des savoirs.<\/div>\n

Pendant deux jours, un groupe de doctorant\u00b7es, \u00e9tudiant.es de master et jeunes chercheur.ses soutenu\u00b7es par l’IRD, Wits et l’IFAS-Recherche ont particip\u00e9 \u00e0 des conf\u00e9rences portant sur les probl\u00e9matiques li\u00e9es au terrain (m\u00e9thodes et \u00e9thique de la recherche, positionnalit\u00e9 du\u00b7de la chercheur\u00b7se, s\u00e9curit\u00e9 et vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 sur le terrain) ainsi qu’\u00e0 des s\u00e9ances de travail en petits groupes visant \u00e0 les aider \u00e0 finaliser leurs articles en vue d’une soumission en peer-review<\/i>. Une table ronde sur les enjeux de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 du terrain a par ailleurs permis de faire dialoguer sciences et sciences sociales, en lien avec l’IRC CNRS-Wits.<\/div>\n

Le programme se poursuivra en 2027 avec la publication d’un num\u00e9ro de la revue Lesedi<\/i>, consacr\u00e9 aux approches r\u00e9flexives du travail de terrain et, la pr\u00e9paration d’un ouvrage \u00e0 publier chez Wits University Press r\u00e9unissant les travaux de la premi\u00e8re cohorte. Une deuxi\u00e8me cohorte de doctorant\u00b7es viendra \u00e9galement poursuivre le programme.<\/div>\n

From September 6 to 9, 2026, IFAS-Research, IRD in Southern Africa and the School of Social Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand, organized the second symposium of the Beyond Binaries project, which aims to rethink South-North relations in knowledge production.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
Over the course of two days, young researchers supported by IRD, Wits Social Sciences and IFAS-Research attended lectures on issues related to fieldwork (research methods and ethics, researcher positionality, safety and vulnerability in the field), as well as small-group workshops designed to help them finalize their articles for peer-reviewed submission. A roundtable discussion also facilitated a dialogue between the sciences and the social sciences centred on safety in the field.<\/div>\n

The program will continue in 2027 with the publication of a special issue of Lesedi<\/i>, dedicated to reflexive approaches to fiedwork, as well as preparation for a book with Wits University Press compiling the work of the first cohort.
