This seminar will present research work focused on the Namibian Communal conservancies, embodiment of the national Community-Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) programme initiated in the late 1990s. Drawing on ethno-ecology, ethno-history and political ecology, the general objective of this research is to study the localities in which CBNRM unfold and contextualize CBNRM in all its dimensions in order to redraw its contours, providing a more comprehensive understanding. After introducing the foundation of CBNRM and its extent in Namibia, examples will show how CBNRM, the communal land reform and the recognition of traditional authorities are interconnected.
