The Politics of Armed Struggle in Southern Africa

Thematic issue coordinated by Arianna Lissoni

Johannesburg, South African Historical Journal, Volume 70, 2018

In the aftermath of the 2016 conference on armed struggle, co-organised and supported by IFAS-Recherche, the South African Historical Journal released a special issue on ‘The Politics of Armed Struggle in Southern Africa’.

Arianna Lissoni, Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Historical Studies at the University of Johannesburg and member of the History Workshop at the University of the Witwatersrand, wrote the editorial of this special issue. The topic of armed struggle echoed her research focus, especially her PhD, entitled The South African Liberation Movements in Exile, c.1945-1970 (School of Oriental and African Studies, London). She also recently co-edited a volume on One Hundred Years of the ANC: Debating Liberation Histories Today (Wits Press, 2012).
